Push Button for Free Giveaway!

Last week's contest has me in a give away mood. And there's no guessing this time! Just take some time to browse around and then leave a comment on this post. At the end of the week, I'll choose a random winner to receive a FREE set of 12 custom notecards featuring any Crossmark photo from my archives--YOUR CHOICE OF ANY PHOTO!

(NOTE: If you want a better chance at winning, say something thoughtful--like which photos you like, your own interest in photography, etc.)

If you're a photo enthusiast, weigh in with some ideas for my Photo Tips series coming up. (Not a requirement for winning the above give away.) NOTE: Your own photography tips are fine, but I'm more interested in your questions about photography.

For a more ways to win a lot of other things, visit the Bloggy Giveaway Carnival going on all week!

I especially love your photos of nature. I really like the toes in the grass picture (my hubby is a podiatrist, you know!), and I love the raindrop dripping from the pine tree branch. As for photo questions...hmmm...I have too many! I just got a new Cannon PowerShot SD850 IS. 8.8 megapixels sure beats my old Olympus 3.3 megapixels. What the heck is a megapixel, anyway?! :) And how can I time my photos with a 21-month-old who is on the move? I still want high resolution pictures, but my shutter speed must be too slow to capture the little bugger who is too cute too quick! Thanks for entering me in your contest--especially since I lost the last one! :)

I really like your Blue Heron photo. that would make a great card, it just says Peace and Serenity to me.

I have a question, what do you do about lighting? Obviously natural is best, but I have a 10 month old son and live in Eastern Washington (where we have a ton of snow) so it's not exactly practical to take pictures of him outside. Maybe I'm expecting to much for all my pics to have good lighting, but I'm SICK of using my flash (and having to edit out his red eyes)
I have windows on both sides of my apartment and get decent daylight, but I usually still have to use the flash. Maybe I just don't know how to set the settings on my Nikon D-50? :)
I'm glad I stumbled on your blog. We're practically neighbors! ;) And my in laws all live around Portland.

Okay, you opened yourself up for questions! I need help to take pictures of my son's indoor soccer games in a big gym. I have a brand new Olympus 510 and I'm still learning it. I mostly shoot on the S mode and play with the shutter speed - 1/80, 1/100 - to capture the action but still let in enough light. It's still not the best - the camera has some auto-focus features and it overrides me and sometimes won't take the picture - should I move to M and play more? Are there other tricks you can tell me? THANKS!
