Cross Country

Big words of the day: "crene" and "merlon" are the names of the alternating high and low segments on the top of the battlement. Who knew?

Actually, I have no idea if the carvings in this architectural detail have any meaning. I do remember that while we were in China, anytime we asked the meaning of some symbol, we were usually told "Double Happiness". This photo is from the Classical Chinese Garden in Portland.
