Hydrant and the Box of Clothes

Could take your clothes to Goodwill. Or just sit them on the curb. Whatever.

Bright green summer woods.

House From Above

Seen from the Marblehead Lighthouse near Sandusky, Ohio. Found this one in the photo archives. See a close-up shot of the picket fence gate here.

Snow More Ice

Tired of snow and ice pics? It's melting away here finally. Here's a touch of spring, though it's months away.

Frozen Twiggy Thing

"What is it?" she said. "It's a frozen twiggy thing," I replied. "You just named my picture."

Everything here in Portland is still a snowy, slushy, foot-deep mess. Warm temps this weekend will get the world moving again, we hope.

Frozen to the Fence

Icy leaf frozen to a fence.

This photo has nothing to do with the holidays, but Merry Christmas everyone!

Icy Robin

Poor bird has to be miserable. But he and some friends found a frozen berry feast from a tree down the street.

(Happy 500th post to me!)

Bumple Grass

Fragile blades of grass reinforced now with bumples of ice. Got another 4 or so inches of snow on top of the ice on top of snow. Tomorrow? Maybe another layer of ice...

Crystal Crusted

Rhododendron leaves crusted with ice like jewels. About 1/4" of ice layered over plants, telephone wires, windshields, etc.

Snow Hydrant

Fire hydrant covered in snow. It's been coming down constantly for over 24 hours now and shows no signs of stopping any time soon.

For now, it's fun being "snowed in", but we may need some ideas on how to keep cabin fever at bay.

Montana Ranch?

Looks like a fence post from a Montana ranch, but it's just proof that snow does fall in a Portland, Oregon neighborhood.

Too Chilly to Play

A neighbor's playhouse. But too cold to play today.

Snow Sill

Snow on a window sill. A rare sight in Portland, but it does happen. Expecting to get dumped on with more snow and ice the next two days. Next week isn't looking any better. Could end up with a severe case of cabin fever.

Cocoa-licious - Crossmark on KATU

Yummy treat for a winter day -- warm cookies and hot chocolate piled high with whipped cream. Took this as a promo shot for my wife's latest article on the KATU.com website (though this shot didn't make the final cut).

Frozen Butterfly

Maple leaf frozen in the snow like a fallen butterfly. I'm just crazy enough to go for a photo walk in the blustery "arctic blast" that Portland got this weekend. An inch or two of snow and this town shuts down.

Upstairs

Creakity stairs, squeakity door. Grungy, grungy.

Hot Dog, Please

Not open for business today. But I've seen this hot dog stand doing quite the business at Portland's Saturday Market on Ankeny Square.

Frosted Ornament

We don't do a ton of decorating in our current house -- which is actually quite a relief. Just enough for holiday spirit without wearing us down to our last nerve. And by "us", I mean "me".

We have exactly five of these frosted ornaments left. They're beautiful, but fragile.
